MABP Updates on New Minimum Wage and Paid Sick Leave Laws

Michigan’s Minimum Wage & Paid Sick Leave Changes

The Michigan Association of Beauty Professionals (MABP) is committed to ensuring that Michigan’s beauty industry is informed and represented in the face of important legislative changes, particularly regarding the new minimum wage and paid sick leave laws that have now taken effect in the state. These new laws, which were passed after months of negotiation, are critical to understanding the landscape of employment practices for beauty professionals in Michigan.

Current Status of the Legislation

As of February 21, 2025 Michigan's new minimum wage and paid sick leave laws are now in effect. The legislation addresses significant changes to worker compensation and rights, including adjustments to the state's minimum wage, paid sick leave, and how these policies are applied to small businesses and workers in the beauty industry. Following Senate Bill 8 and House Bill 4002 being passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Whitmer, the new regulations are now being implemented across Michigan.
