How Beauty Professionals Can Stay Ahead Of COVID-19

Infection control has always come first and foremost in the beauty industry, long before the pandemic.

Although most of us are confident that we can wash our hands, wear a mask and disinfect properly to stop the spread, we have to remember that some clients may still be uncertain about coming in to receive a service. We have to be there to reassure guests that we can work safely during times like these. Keeping up with the latest COVID-19 infection control education can be a tool to help us gain that trust.

As an esthetician, I am up close and personal with my guests all day. At the beginning of this all, one of the first things we were told to do to stop the spread of Covid-19 was to social distance at 6 feet. Impossible! Spas were ordered to close mid-March. That was a reality check and I definitely started to fear for my career. Is it ever going to be the same? When will I get my job back? My clients are going to be afraid to come back! Fast forward to now. Staying in touch with clients and other industry professionals, I have a totally different perspective. We have to step back, take a deep breath, take charge, and stay educated!

More and more resources are popping up daily for professionals like us and we will continue to share them here on the MABP website. Similar to what I was saying above, we could keep a clean and sanitary workspace in our sleep, but honestly, it never hurts to have a refresher. Knowledge is power, especially now! Many disinfectant and professional product companies are offering FREE education and certification courses with updated infection control protocols and suggestions for salons and spas opening during the Covid-19 pandemic. Once you take the course and pass the tests, you get a printable certificate to display. Show it off! This is a great way to prove to clients that you know your stuff, care about their safety, and your own. On top of that, staying educated about Covid-19 infection control will help build a more trusting relationship between you and your guests for years to come.

We have linked some of these courses below!
