Jena is originally from Ohio and moved to Mason, Michigan in 2005. With the support of her family, she took a leap of faith and opened a salon in Mason with only one stylist: herself. In the beginning, Salon 130 was a modest 1,000 square feet with 4 stylist stations; but Jena quickly set her sights on expanding. After a few short years, that vision became a reality. With her family's help, Salon 130 remodeled, grew to 3,300 square feet and became the only full-service salon and spa in the area, complete with a salon coordinator and 10 independent salon professionals: an esthetician, massage therapist, manicurists, and hairstylists. As a business owner, Jena has created an environment in which each professional can thrive independently as well as with the larger team and a customer experience that cannot be matched.
An expert in the area, Jena served for 3 years on the Cosmetology Board for the Capital Area Career Center. She was instrumental in setting up a showcase for the cosmetology students that is modeled after a professional hair show. With this new model, students give their presentations in a realistic platform setting, giving them the opportunity to showcase their talent and get a feel for the industry. Jena continues to give back to her community by serving as a Board Member of The Mason Area Chamber of Commerce. It is her distinct honor and privilege to be a founding board member of the Michigan Association of Beauty Professionals.
